Montreal day 1
Well its been almost a month since Montreal and I figured I should probably write about it but its old news now.
Tuesday morning we were to leave at 10am but Pete had a dentist appt. and didn't show up here till 11am and then he wanted to wash his car so we didn't get out of Halifax till about 1130 or so. Anyway the night before I was packing and I repacked cause I thought I was taking too much stuff with me that I probably didn't need so I just had a suitcase bag and a backpack and I thought that was alot but when Pete opened his trunk there was no room for my stuff cause he had the biggest suitcase I have ever seen and it was full of his clothes. I nearly died as my experince with guys is that they can fit their clothes in a duffel bag for like a month....but not him. He thought like a girl as he didn't know what to take so he took it all....its was pretty funny, thats when I knew we would get along on the trip ok.
Anyway arrived in Edmunston around suppertime that night to camp....THUNDER AND LIGHTING!!!! I thought I got over the thunder and lighting when we had to set up the tent in it but on the way back I did not as we ran into it again. Anyway after the tent was up we took out the fishing poles and went fishing. I caught something and we're not sure what type of fish it is and even the campground owner never seen one like that before and he had a fish book. Anyway we decided to clean it and cook it over the campfire but we opened it up and it was pure bone so that went in the garbage (and the furthest one away from our tent incase the bears or some animals smelt it and came out of the woods). So we decided to cook some hotdogs and marshmellows. Now getting the campfire was such a big job when it didn't half to be. Pete brought some wood from home that was sitting at their house for a while and we lit it but it wouldn't stay lit so we drove to the first store we seen (about 10p0m it was) and they were french and didn't understand what we were looking for so we found some BBQ charcoal stuff that said all you had to do was light the bag so we bought that and threw it in the firepit and of course Pete didn't even read the instructions and tore off the peice that you had to light so he just lit the bag and it burnt but we just had coals so we gave up and bought some firewood from the campground (only $6) and low and behold we had fire so we could eat (it was around 12pm by now) and guess what....the fire was still going when we got up at 6am. I have to tell you about the bathrooms....usually campgrounds have then old public shower washrooms and stuff but this campground had 4 bathrooms (2 women, 2mens) and they were private. You walked into it and there was a toilet, sink and then a stand up shower in it....it was really nice. I was impressed cause thats what I was worried about. Anyway were were on the road I think by 7am and we didn't see a Tim Hortons till about 2 hours later...in that time we had to stop at a gas station for coffee and after we did that we saw a Tim's.
Arrived in Montreal around 2 or 3 (was 1 hour behind) and I took travel and tourism and all but I could not read the map...I was so confused. Pete saw the hotel and we kept driving past it and there was only one way to the front doors but we coudn't get to that street cause everytime we did it was all oneways...but we eventually got there. It said on the hotel website that there is Valet parking so we said great we'll do that. We pulled up and got out and the bellman came over and got our stuff and then Pete said is there Valet parking and they said "you can park it yourself around the corner" so we got back in and went around the corner and parked it ourselves. Got in the elevator in the parking garage and pressed the hotel button floor so we got out of the elevator and it wasn't on the lobby floor so we had to walk around and try to find an elevator for that and there were some other people there that couldn't find it either...but we all eventually did...they need better markings.
Checked in and Pete took a little nap and then we went out walking around looking. We went to the tourist beareau and the lady asked us what we're interested in and we said anything but museams so she said she'd be right back with some stuff....and guess what there was to do...yep Museaums....so she was a BIG help.
We walked around and saw some carriage rides and thought that would be fun so we got on a horse and carriage around Old Montreal which was very nice. The driver was telling us a bunch of stuff about old montreal but I couldn't hear it but that was ok cause I was just along for the ride...I didn't really care about the info.
After that we went down to the waterfront which is nice as well and there was fireworks at 1000-1030pm which is actually going on all summer, its a bunch of countries competeing on the best fireworks and while we were there Portugal was showing their's...fireworks are all the same. So killing time till then we went to the Imax 3d thing and saw Under the ocean or deep sea or something like that. it was my first 3d movie and it was quite interesting.
Got out of there and walked around for about and hour and then got our spot for the fireworks and of couse it was past my bedtime so i rubbed my eyes and low and behold one of my contacts fell out on the ground somewhere and it was pitch black so I was watching with one eye...how fun was that. I should always carry my glasses or another set of contacts with me...I never learn. Anyway after the fireworks we watched (me one eyed) a few busker type things and then tried to find the hotel. I think we walked for about 3 hours before we found it. We had to stop for a coffee on the way back. It really wasn't that far away but it was our first night there and it was dark so we had no idea where we were and I had to trust Pete to find our way as I was half blind....eventually we made it back.
Day 1 was over.
